I think I was details with my inspecion but it turns out I'm not. The transit I got had a wooden board stuck between the panel and the frame close to the hinde of the rear door. Called up the previous owner and he said it was because the van was creaking whenever you get in the back. I removed the board and it was true. Is this something I should be worried about? Could the van have been in an accident?

No it's not necessarily a sign of an accident but you should really inspect the door alignment, frame welds near the hinges, or maybe there's an overspray or uneven panel gaps. Just have a pro check it.
